There is going to be an American version of Top Gear on NBC. It won't have Clarkson Hammond or May.
No cast has been anounced yet but there is talk that NBC is doing of two things, or both. 1. they are looking for automotive journalists (like UK Top Gear) or, 2. they are going the "celebrity" route. There are rumors that they are looking at Jay Leno and Jerry Seinfeld. I actually think either one of them could be a good pick to lead the show, the key is going to be in balancing the cast out with a couple other good people.
I hope it does not suck.

Is that going to be the same as watching 3 Brits drive the cars though? Not that im saying British Top Gear is deffinitely going to be better, but you have to admit when you and i and i guess most others think of Top Gear, we do automatically think fast cars Clarkson, Hammon and May. So would it be just as good or not so good because you dont have those three presenting it? Basically, what this is getting down to is, do you watch Top Gear mainly for the cars or for the way in which they are represented by the three presenters? I personally wouldnt be able to imagine any other people presenting it or something similar, the same way i couldnt imagine most american shows being copied by us folk. I guess we will just have to wait 'n' see huh.

The sweet cars and the witty/crazy Brits really go hand in hand. I can't imagine the US version will be as good. And who's going to be Stigg? Some nascar guy? I don't think so....

I think you guys are right about Clarkson, hammond, and may being the best part of the show. I do think it would be possible to make a US version that would be enjoyable and fun to watch, maybe not as good as the Brit show but still good. It will all come down to the casting.
Which brings me to this. One of the hosts has been revealed.....
Adam Carolla. I was worried when I first heard the news but the idea of him being a host is starting to warm on me, especially after I heard a lengthy clip from his radio show in which he talks about cars and going to the Paris Air Show. He is a huge car nut, a proper petrol head as the blokes would say. Also, if you are familiar with the Man Show or anything else he has done you know he won't shy away from totally riping on a shitty car.
He is annoying though but there is one thing to keep in mind about that. Clarkson, Hammond, and May are a bit annoying too when they are alone. They only work so well because they balance each other out so nicely. We can only hope that the same thing will happen here.
Oh and as for the Stig, I don't know who they'd get. Maybe a NASCAR driver, maybe Indy car, remember that there is a good bit of crossover between racing leagues so many of them have experience on road tracks. Hell, there are a ton of F1 drivers that have, and still do, race in Indy car.
EDIT: I don't know about you folks copying American shows but I do that we have gotten really good at copying British shows.
