*the note about the rez, ATI is 'notorious' for tweaky-finicky drivers. ATI good stuff, for puter-nerds who can muck-around with 'finicky-drivers'. I always use nVidia in customers puters where possible to avoid this, not to say I don't like ATI. It could be in the rez-switch when you start ET. Make sure desktop and ET both run same rez, try different ones. (however, this doesn't explain how u can join other servers with no probs) Maybe QAW 'just has it out for ya',..hehe (I know in CastleWolf, u can turn off 'downloads from server', if possible, do same in ET, maybe QAW server is trying to download 'malware' to u,...hehe, oh those evil QAWsters,..hehe)

One day, I had a problem about drivers who lead me to a bsod. So I'd to run it in safe mod and run a software called "tuneup utilities" which cleaned my registry database and solved my problem (don't ask me why registry solved a problem of drivers, I won't be able to explain and I'm not a master of registry things lol). I see you guys tried many things and maybe I'm totaly wrong but when I'm really stuck and I don't know what to try anymore, I used to try many strange things (sometime it helped, sometime it didn't change anything). www.tune-up.com/download/Maybe it wont help but you're not losing anything if you try it and it's pretty fast aswell. If I have any more ideas, will share it with you. And yeah, you should install Catalyst Control Center and update your drivers. Do you have Catalyst on your computer? I had some problem to run some games on my laptop after I changed the Harddrive because I didn't install Catalyst. I found my error after long hours of search on the Internet telling me to install that damned software (even if drivers are up to date, it sounds catalyst could be very usefull mouarf).

umm, the 1280x800 rez 'looks unusual', at what rez do u run ET? and ur second puter, that works...> reboot both puters, then open Task Manager (taskman), go to processes, and compare the 2 lists. Anything u see 'extra' on problem computer, kill the process. Once you've killed all the 'extra' processes, then try ET. You can also turn off error reporting, Right clik MY COMPUTER, PROPERTIES, ADVANCED tab, at the bottom-> ERROR REPORTING Disable error reporting, and remove checkmark from "But notify me when critical errors occur" Winblows should shut-up about errors now. If error is reported by ET/PB, it won't help :/ *I always turn off error reporting once I finished setting up any puter. If it works properly, why do I want Winblows to run a service to look for-what's-not-there? If puter starts having probs, then I re-enable to see what's going on. Otherwise, it's useless. fyi It doesn't really matter what resolution I run on ET. It always crashes. The 1280x800 is for my wide pc screen And about turning error messages off... I think I will still get the errors right? Just not the messages? *the note about the rez, ATI is 'notorious' for tweaky-finicky drivers. It's any server that enables PB. Any server that doesn't require PB doesn't give me a problem. But they're not fun to play in

Try installing a separate copy of ET to a location other than the default.
Also realise that when you uninstall, the only stuff that gets deleted is what the installer put there to begin with... any maps, mods, campaign files, etc that you have DLed in the past stay there, so when you re-install, its all still there and gets loaded, its just like you never uninstalled.
Installing a separate copy elsewhere ensures that you are loading a completely "stock" ET.

DaBastardI use uhm.. "PC Veilig" (PC Secure) from KPN. <AL>{QAW} @zohar Yeah, I know that. I always delete the Wolfenstein folder. But I guess it doesn't hurt to try.

thought maybe it was the PB/F-Secure issue (more on that here: www.flame-guards.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=8775) it might be worth a try to disable-anti-virus, then try joining, see if it's the issue. Be sure to re-enable after. these are other known PB/app conflicts: Get Right DU Super Controler Macro Toolsworks Girder 3.2 PRTG Traffic Grapher T-Online DSL Software: ctfmon.exe CyberCorder: cybrcrdr.exe "Closing those programs, or any like them that contain user or kernel level debuggers should stop the problem" there seems to be an issue out there with PB and certain apps. Now the trick is to find that 'rogue' app. hate to put u thru all these hoops, but again, the devil will be in the details. maybe u can post a 'Hijack This' log, and we can see all that is running, and we can see what you have compared to the rest of us. link here: free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/

maybe its punkbuster vs antivirus ;antivirus wins then punkbuster gets shutdown and the game crashed? or firewall.. I noticed that your pbweb screenshot looks old..there's a new one maybe you could that one.

Pink, I hope you're still checking this thread. Be sure to try the app that Blessed recommended: "Download Gamebooster majorgeeks.com/Game_Booster_d6148.html it closes all the background programs your computer is running freeing up your ram and processing power that would be used to run these in the background. It can be used to restore them when your done playing to." I've dl'd it and installed. I like the idea behind it. My puter is 'manually-tweaked' as much as I dare to do, but this certainly is the 'icing-on-the-cake'. Run this app before joining QAW server, see what happens. But be sure to re-enable background-apps after, as it shuts down the Anti-virus and such, so leaves you open to bad-stuff-happening. I haven't given it a long-term-test yet, but I like what I see. I haven't had much time for fragging lately, but after connecting with this app running, I save about 5ms ping-time. 2 thumbs up for this app, i'll report if any problems, but seems to work great and does what it promises. I hope you'll try it. (and everyone else should give it a go too)

UPDATE re: Game Booster
be careful with this, I was just infected with a virus/trojan because I was allowing it to shut-down the Anti-virus when I joined a game. It's a fake-anti-virus scan, and disables most apps. (cleaned it out, post if it gets ya)
I'm going to continue to try it, leaving the AV enabled.

Interesting :S I have nortan antivirus and it doesn't close it on me. You can also scroll through the list and just uncheck your antivirus so it doesn't shut it down should be good to go then.
