Got kicked about 3 or 4 times, every time same thing.........losing keypackets 9014. I see a lot of players getting kicked with same reason.
Seen it several times last 2 days......not just on QAW. Oh, I've updated PB manualy.

This is happening on both game instances (customs and original). Won't let me play for more than 5-10 mins. Don't we just love evenbalance and their rock solid product that they love to support and fix ...

Funnily enough, I haven't updated and I don't have this problem. I haven't been getting kicked for GUID AUTH UNK lately either, which is very weird since I'm kind of used to it and expect it. At this point, I don't think I want to update unless I have to The worst part is I played et for years without any trouble from pb at all. I don't see why it should cause so many problems now. Rule one is that if it isn't broken, don't fix it. Good advice that I think evenbalance hasn't followed.

I've heard that this has been happening on other servers and other punkbuster enabled games too... I think that the punkbuster servers are getting punked out and evenbalance has stopped any support what-so-ever. So, I propose, that Disco codes a homegrown version of a hax detector. We could call it the Disco Dancer v. 1.1. Essentially all it needs is a database that contains teh ban/kick/warn list and then every once in a while just kick a random player from the server with some cryptic message. Oh and pick 3 other players and give them teh lag. Couldn't be any worse than what we have now with PB. Do it.

lol yeah on the =F|A= servers they have stats like this "Search "#9014:" (494 hits in 1 files)
PB issued 494 kicks for 9014 Ignoring queries violation alone on F|A 1. Good job EB way to go.
On Hardcore it issued kick for 202 times for above violation. "
and that was 2 days ago, counts gone up substantially by now I would think...
I've heard that doing /pb_sleep 250 helps .... its a long shot at best though.

Now I shall never know if my team got the parts. Oh nooo... we might have to check the server logs to see if your team got the parts. Meanwhile, to add to the packet loss problem, I've got a new one that started recently. While playing, the screen randomly goes dark every once in a while and I have to restart the ET process. I wonder whether this is the start of the end, the middle of the end or the end of the end of ET... maybe I should reinstall everything or...... .... take up a new hobby like basket weaving from this fine lady.

Its happening everywhere as Porridge said! . Some people (like myself) have yet to get this error on qaw. I've had this error happen to me on another server though ONLY ONCE. Ticket EB, thats about the only thing you can do. www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=support-et.phpDont expect a response for a few days though.

Ok - so this solution doesn't really help with the losing key packets issue - but helped me prevent the game crashing frequently (that started recently). I had literally hundreds of pk3 files in my etmain folder and PB and ET run out of file handles after a certain limit is reached.
The effect is that the game either becomes really slow or it crashes. The solution is to delete most of the pk3 files in that directory (the smaller ones which are campaign files) except pak0.pk3, pak1.pk3, pak2.pk3, mp_bin.pk3. I had a ton of files with a size of 1 K.
This has fixed the issue with the game crashing and co-incidentally it's also reduced the frequency of punkbuster kicks for losing key packets (but that's got to be a total coincidence).
Looks like PB is trying to send a lot more data down the same pipe (with their Sept. 4th update) and packets are getting lost after a fixed timeout is reached (speculation). Hope they put a patch fix for this since several in the gaming community that use PB have been filing tickets on the link merv sent.

Can be very very annoying like setting mines as axis on gold rush and getting them done to keep the tank disabled only to get booted about a minute after as i head back up towards tank barrier one woot woot i looove pb >.<

I hate to be the only one (pb will have the hate on for me now ) but i haven't had any pb kicks at all . It seems if you run pbsetup and not pbweb it seems to work fine . Here is a link to download pbsetup : www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.phpjust download the proper version for whatever operating system you are using (win , linux ) and follow the instructions on the download page to properly run it . Hope it helps . Barrel - I tried this a few days ago and it didn't help. I'm speculating that this problem doesn't manifest itself on certain OS/machine combinations (i.e Disco runs linux and is probably using an older version of PB and seems to be fine). It seems like XP users are affected more than others. The only hope is that evenbalance puts a patch update sometime soon. They've got to have gotten a lot of bug requests via their support site. The problem started with their sept 4th update. Until then my recommendation to infected folks is to avoid laying mines...

Well SLAC has not been coded for ETPUB and therefore won't suit fine. Silent detectection, the fact that you have to run SLAC before every game, you have to register on a website... It's optimal for etpro, i use it, but not for ETPUB.
We are stuck to PB, and as they seem to stop supporting ET, dunno what will happen...

I agree with everything you said about slac lol I'm just hoping they start supporting etpub because its way better then PB, and the registering on the website takes like 5 mins max so thats not that big of a deal, its just wishful thinking though lol

We are stuck to PB, and as they seem to stop supporting ET, dunno what will happen... Actually the problem is that they continue to support ET (potentially increasing the amount of data that is scanned) but probably not testing their maintenance releases against all OS/Platforms etc. - which is a recipe for disaster. Seeing the myriad bug reports I'd like to think that they would've reverted back to their last stable release until a fix was made... but who knows how they operate. ----------------- Saturday 09.04.2010 [5:00PM] Version 1.774 of the PB Server for ET has been released to our PB Master Servers for auto-update and to our website download page. This is a maintenance release. ------------------ www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=support-et.php

I have been noticing this happen to people almost every other game but I have yet to experience the problem myself. I have not updated anything in forever and the only problems I encounter are GUID auth kicks if I try to run this game on my linux partition. Running it on an old Windows XP partition has been close to flawless for about a year now.

Yesterday, I installed ET from scratch on the XP partition of my machine in an effort to recreate this problem here. I was able to play for over an hour with no problems at all even after updating pb to the latest version. So after dinner I booted back into Linux and updated pb to the same version as my windows install (I backed up the pb directory in both partitions so that I could revert in case of disaster). Once again, I had no trouble with losing key packets. I found the "PB Services for Windows FAQ" on the evenbalance site (took a bit of digging around) which states: taken from: www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsvcfaq.phpI also found someone who claimed to get a (vague) reply to their trouble ticket with evenbalance that claims: taken from: www.punksbusted.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=69134This might explain why I can't recreate the problem since I have no malware protection whatsoever on my XP install, including windows firewall which is off (I only use Windows for gaming). Linux has no such software running in the background filtering packets and whatnot which might also explain why it works there. It would be interesting if someone on Windows would be willing to disable the security software and the security features to see if the problem goes away, though I wouldn't recommend that anyone try it on live machine since it might not be worth it. I would also like to hear from anyone who is running Linux who has this problem since it would be interesting to compare theirs with my working setup to see what the differences are. In the meantime, I think that downgrading to the previous version makes sense though there is no obvious way to do this using pbsetup and the tools at hand. Perhaps we can come up with something? Hope this helps.

elove and disco - Thanks for digging into this further. Would you do me a favor and let me know what PB version you are running on your XP partitions? You will see both a client and server version (which you can verify with the PBSetup tool - and also when you join the server I believe). Also, can you bring up windows services and look for the services named PnkBstrA and PnkBstrB. Can you verify the path where those services are installed and note the dates that those services were updated (and also file size)? Mine are installed in the system32 dir and I believe (I'm not on that machine right now) that my PnkBstrB service is new (i.e updated on 9/4). Similar to s!m, I have my AVG's on-access scanner disabled when playing. And in reality none of my setup has changed since EB updated PB on 9/4 and that really leads me to believe that it is a software issue on their end. I filed another ticket yesterday and would recommend all affected users here to do the same (takes around 2 mins to do so). The more similar tickets they get, the more inclined they might be in raising the priority of the tickets. www.evenbalance.com/troubleticket/new_ticket.php?game=et

Hi Porridge
After my clean install of ET yesterday, pbsetup reported the client version as v1.152 A1382 and the server version as v1.149 A1347 C1.152. There is no windows service component to this version so the files PnkBstrA and PnkBstrB did not exist (according to the FAQ anyway).
After running the update, pbsetup reported the client version as v2.236 A1382 and the server version as v1.774 A1382 C2.236.
PnkBstrA shows up in services as v1032 and in the .../Windows/System32 directory. It is 74KB in size.
PnkBstrB also shows up in services as v2.236ET and also in .../Windows/System32. It is 230KB in size.
Both services are set to start automatically. I can't really give you an date for the upgrade since I did this yesterday...surely someone who uses XP as their primary machine could provide you with a date as to what files changed when.

Has anyone tried running this: www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe...its a pb service install/uninstall utility that includes a test component. It is possible to test an existing install with this. Or reinstall and then test. Could someone who is losing key packets please try it???

Mine are installed in the system32 dir and I believe (I'm not on that machine right now) that my PnkBstrB service is new (i.e updated on 9/4). I just checked and my PnkBstrA file is old from like Feb (file size of 74 kb) but my PnkBstrB file says it was updated on 9/3/10 and the file size is (230 kb). So it seems like it must be the B file that is causing the problem since the other one has not been updated for a long time.
