The Old Man and the Gun was pretty good ... kind of a throwback to a simpler time of movies like other Redford classics you may have seen. If you are into that you will probably enjoy, if not then I dunno.

Annihilation is on Hulu currently. Just watched it last night. Sci-fi flick with Natalie Portman based on a trilogy of books called Southern Reach. Pretty riveting and visually stunning. A good use of 2 hours.

Maybe I will check it out ... I actually have seen it decently reviewed but I remember seeing previews for it and thinking wow that looks dumb so I never bothered to watch.

It's not an immaculately sculpted plot but I found it to be quite entertaining. The climax is weird/cool/slightly terrifying and pretty much makes the whole trip worth it.

I saw that the reviews for newly released Glass are pretty bad ... I dug Unbreakable and Split but the review headlines are kinda saying its not a very satisfying conclusion ... Will watch it anyways though once its made it out of the theaters.

I did watch Unbreakable and Split. I ended up really liking Unbreakable. Its slow, restrained approach to a superhero film is the kind of thing I like to see. It did have some classic Shyamalan tropes like awkward stares, pauses in conversations, some strange dialogue, and some very slow camera movements. I can see why people like Shyamalan though. His style was a certain weirdness to it that I liked. I do think he’s a better director than writer though.
I liked Split too. James McAvoy stole the show, as I’ve heard he does. I personally liked Unbreakable more because there was more going on with the story, but Split was a great way to introduce Kevin and his personalities.
I did know about the twist in Split, which I now wish I didn’t when I saw it. To have a surprise sequel in a trilogy that’s been sitting for 15 or more years must have been a lot of fun for Shyamalan’s fans.
I also actually didn’t know very much about Unbreakable’s plot going in, and either didn’t know or forgot about its ending. I really enjoyed it, and the way they handled Elijah and his motivations was cool to see.
I’ve also heard that early reactions to Glass are mixed. I still need to give it a watch though.

Yeah I watched Unbreakable on VHS ... was definitely out of left field for me when the connection came up in Split all those years later.
Are there any 2019 movies we're looking forward to? I'm sure AWOL will be watching the Star Wars that come out :-P.
I am looking forward to the second part of IT , LEGO movie 2, Us (new Jordan Peele horror-thing like Get Out), Detective Pikachu, John Wick 3, Toy Story 4, Spiderman, Avengers ... those are some big ones I can think of that should be lots of fun.

True, I am excited to see how the new Star Wars trilogy ends. However, while I really liked The Last Jedi when it came out, my opinion of it has lowered with time. I still don’t think it’s a bad movie all the way through, but it does have its issues.
I’m also excited for Avengers: Endgame. It’s going to be three hours in length and I’m very excited to see how the Russos wrap up this era of the MCU.
But my most anticipated movie isn’t Star Wars or Avengers; it’s actually the Joker film coming out in October. Joaquin Phoenix will be starring as the Joker, and it’s supposed to be a more grounded, gangster film telling his origins. It isn’t connected with any of the current DCEU films, and I’m very excited to see it.
There’s also a naval war film called Greyhound starring Tom Hanks that sounded interesting. There’s also a drama film with Matt Damon and Christian Bale called Ford vs. Ferrari that has potential.

Have a new Netflix movie Velvet Buzzsaw that came out yesterday ... Might watch it tonight. Something about Jake Gyllenhaal and art coming to life ... Reviews kinda mixed but seemed skewed towards positive . will give it a shot.

Aw damn sad to hear it i was looking forward to it. I still have to see the first one of course... The guy who played Nicholas Flammel is the son of one of my favorite directors. Weird.

I watched it even though it had horrible reviews because I enjoyed the first one, but the 2nd one just did not have it goin' on.

I think part of the appeal of the first (from what people have told me) is that the cast was largely lesser known folks. The 2nd one seems like they just tried to stuff it with as many famous people as possible and the production/writing/other film words probably suffered from it. Will still give it a chance eventually though.
