I thought I'd bring this to the forum. The regular server was empty one day (it was about 11:00 eastern, so no one on QAW yet), so I ended up playing on an ETPro server that also had no sk rules. Although they defined sk as heavy weapons and explosives only... It was interesting.
Anyway, I noticed when I hit my mini map that sk zones their clan had defined showed up on the map. The no sk zones showed up as red, with capturable/cp as yellow. They also appeared on the players compass when they walked around the map. Is there a way for the original server to get this? I think it could help a lot with explaining the sk zones, especially the Old City Allied spawn on Oasis (after wall is blown). I wasn't sure if it was only possible in ETPro or if ETPub could do it as well.

I know for sure there are features that exclusively work in ETPro... don't know if this one is, but I would think so. Anyway, I wouldn't use it... as a teacher, I like to encourage ppl to read the rules and increase their reading skills...

I'm not saying this is a replacement for reading the rules. It was just a suggestion that could be convenient. Believe me, I would still tell someone to go to the website and read if they were breaking the sk rules. And then kick them if I had to.

well I believe its possible to do this, all you would have to do is modify the mini-maps on the server side. As to actually doing this, I cant answer that one.

This can definitely be done, but it would require the user to download a custom version of the ENTIRE map. For example.. you would have to download 'Oasis_SK.pk3'. However... I think the philosophy of the name 'Qaw Originals' is that people don't want additional downloads =] I'm currently looking at server side scripting (which clients DONT need to download anything) that can put 'messages in console' when someone starts killing people in a SK zone and they will automatically get a warning/etc.

Since I have no idea how to do any of what has been said up to now, I'll just sit comfortably and keep watching the parrot on Quick's avatar!

I'm currently looking at server side scripting (which clients DONT need to download anything) that can put 'messages in console' when someone starts killing people in a SK zone and they will automatically get a warning/etc. Have you tried with .lua script? I think this would be the easiest way to do so as I know it's often use on server side. The code looks quite simple.

That's exactly what I'm using however, qaw is using an older version of etpub 0.8.1, lua supports 0.9 and above.

Yop I think I've already asked if it was possible to upgrade the etpub version on qaw server, as it brings some new feature such as the hardware ban if my memory is right. It Will lead to force people to download this new .pk3 from the server with its awsome bandwith, but it's not that heavy.

You typically offload the pk3 downloads to another server, like qawclan.com for example. Plus, these days I assume that more players currently have to download the old version of ETPub vs the people that would have to download the new version (maybe not).
The command map change can be done without making the client download an ENTIRE alternate map pk3, if I recall correctly. ET client loads pk3s in alphabetical order, so if two pk3s have the same filenames in the same locations within them, the one loaded last overwrites the files in the pk3 that was loaded earlier. Suppose the command map for oasis is in the location "pak0.pk3\maps\oasistracemap.tga" (is that it? I don't have a program to open TGA.) You should be able to edit that and put it in a new pk3, it also has to be "maps/oasistracemap.tga" . As long as the pk3 has a name that will get it loaded after pak0.pk3, it should overwrite it (skcommandmaps.pk3). I think you actually put that pk3 in the ETPub folder instead of etmain, but I'm unsure of that. This download would be crazy tiny, even with all the maps being done.
Sgt. AWOLaLot: The modified command maps you saw should still be in a pk3 that you downloaded from that server, in the folder of the mod that you were playing (etpub, jaymod, etc). Or maybe it's in etmain, I forget that. lol
