The Rabbit Bodyguard is back with another tip overview and this time I am talking about everyone’s favorite: the Engineer. Maps are won and lost over the actions of this one class. And if you are playing an Axis Engineer get prepared for some grief from time to time; just remember to try and do you best. This is the first class I started with and boy was it tough, mainly because I was always and I mean always dying.
[Judge]Usagi Tip #1: Be courteous to all your fellow Engineers.
Basically, don’t steal someone XP by coming in and helping him build. In my humble opinion, it is in bad taste. The other guy was there first so unless the enemy kills him let him get the XP for completing the build. Example: if I am building a command post or a water pump and nobody is around don’t run up next to me and finish my build. It is cheap and you are a punk.
Now, the exception to the above tip is an objective which is under heavy fire. Under these conditions help is always encouraged and appreciated (i.e. the tank or a bridge).
[Judge]Usagi Tip #2: Always plant two dynamites.
Now this is more of a tip when you are playing an Allied Engineer. When you are at an objective (i.e. like the Old City Wall on the Oasis map), if you can I suggest you always plant two dynamites. This will make an Axis Engineer have to pick which one to disable first and that can make a difference in the destruction of a target. I try and put the second dynamite on top of the first because most people try to disarm the top instead of the bottom one and those extra seconds might be enough for the first dynamite to explode. Also, if you are a Covert Ops back up your Engineer by dropping smoke on the dynamite. This can help disorient any Axis Engineer trying to find and disarm the planted dynamite, especially if there are two of them.
Bonus Tip A: If you are playing on the Allied team like in the example above; remember to let the smoke clear and both dynamites explode before running to the next objective or you might find yourself teamkilled by your own Engineers dynamite. I learned this one from experience. LOL.
[Judge]Usagi Tip #3: Always hide behind the objective.
Now, you may think everyone would do that, but it is not so. Trust me, I play a sniper and I know. Always get behind whatever you are trying to build. Those boxes or the tank can provide good cover from enemy fire. It won’t help protect much from artillery but it is better than nothing. Also, if the tank is moving crouch and move with it for protection.
Sub Tip A: You can look around while you are building and still complete the build. Do this from time to time so nobody can sneak up on you, especially when building a tank barrier or truck barrier as an Axis Engineer.
[Judge]Usagi Tip #4: Fix the broken machine gun nest.
Not only is it helpful to the rest of the team, but you can gain easy XP points by always fixing the broken machine guns. Keep an eye out for them because most Engineers pass them by.
[Judge]Usagi Tip #5: Landmines, Landmines, and landmines. Did I mention landmines?
I’m sure more than enough has been said about planting landmines so I won’t go into great detail about it. However, I believe a smart Allied Engineer will place a few landmines in territory which has been already gained.
One great example of this is on the Oasis map; plant one landmine in each direction around the command post after the old city wall has been breached. There is no reason for an allied player to be running around back there after that point. And there is nothing like the satisfaction of blowing up the sneaky Axis Covert Ops as he tried to go after your command post.
Another good example is on the Fuel Dump map; plant a couple of landmines around the Axis command post and the first entrance to the caves after the tank has gone through. This will prevent an Axis Engineer from going back and rebuilding their command post.
Sub Tip A: Always remember to leave room for your team mates to run around your landmines.
That’s all for today’s Judge Usagis Tips and if you find these simple tips helpful let me know. And remember these are just my two yen on this stuff and in no way should anything I say be considered gospel, just friendly suggestions.
