I looked for thread to stick this under, came up empty so here it is.
I love a bounced rnade kill. Always more fun.
There is a little 'quirk' to bouncing an rnade. When you shoot an rnade, it can bounce once then explodes when it lands again, or it will explode when it lands the first time.
What determines this the most is the angle of your nade-popper when you shoot it. I don't know for sure, but I think any rnade shot at below about 45deg. (30deg. maybe even) will bounce once. Shooting at over an angle of 45deg., it will explode on impact.
The exception is if you hit a 'close' target, then it will bounce no matter the angle of the rnade popper.
There is a 'distance' thing too. Closer rnades bounce, further ones explode. That makes sense as distance is related to the angle of the rnade-popper. The exception is when you're up high, in a building or tower, your gun can be below ~45deg. (30deg.), but your rnades will explode on impact.
Another exception is if I'm running down a hallway/tunnel/in building (something with a roof), I can shoot up (90deg.) and it will bounce off ceiling and explode on impact.
Another way to use the bounce is when being chased/opponent behind you. I point down, be sure to miss your feet , and it bounces off ground goes up and comes back down exploding on impact. Time this right and you can have it land on your pursuer behind you. It's like being chased and dropping nades except when it hits the ground (after the bounce) it goes off instantly. Usually used when no walls around to bounce off of.
Some maps if you shoot straight up, it will 'disappear' and never land, other maps it will come back down and explode on impact.
I find it better, when up close to your opponent to shoot so as you bounce the rnade first then have it land on/near the player and explode.
If you shoot directly at the player, you're aim has to be right on and hit him, otherwise it will travel by and explode behind them and you'll be in a gun fight with a full-health opponent.
I like to make sure I'm going to damage him at least some and take my chances in a gun fight, as opposed to taking my chances of an all-or-nothing rnade-shot.
This makes me favor the bounce.
re Distance: It also applies to bouncing rnades off things like walls, boxes, tanks, etc. Closer up, you can bounce off the wall, further away it will explode when it hits the wall. The point at where it bounces/explodes is dependant on;
1. Angle of the rnade-popper
2. How high the player is on the map compared to where the shot lands.
3. Distance travelled.
Also, if you hit a player (at a distance) it will explode on impact whereas if you had hit the wall it may bounce. If you hit a player up-close-and-personal, it will bounce off him.
There are also exceptions to the 1-bounce. You can bounce them 2 times off walls/items and have them explode when they land.
Where this works is on Gold Rush and the fixed-MG that is nearest the 2nd tank barrier. If I stand on stairs-top-landing (under the Mango Room), I can shoot into that top corner above the MG and it bounces 2x and lands on the MG hitting player. There is a 'corner' behind that MG. When I shoot an rnade, I see it bounce off the right side, then backside, then fall and explode. If I shoot at a player on the lower landing and try to make a 2-bounce in the corner there, it never happens, always explodes on impact. And shooting just above that, at the corner above the MG, I always get the 2-bounce. A good example of how little the distance can be between bouncing and exploding-on-impact.
So proof that 2 bounces are possible. You can get 2 bounces off walls/items (crates, etc.), but you can't get a 2 bounce ground/wall. It will never bounce off wall AND ground or vice versa. As soon as you include the ground in your shot, you only have the possibility of getting 1 bounce. I don't think I've ever seen a 2-bounce on the ground only.
Quirk to this, you can 2-bounce by hitting floor first, then roof, then drop and explode. You have to be in tunnel/building.
Get all these variables correct and it's easy-peasy to get rnade kills.
