I have an old comp that still uses XP and it's the one I use to play ET. Lately when I turn it on, I keep getting this error and it locks up (so Ihave to restart). It usually takes a couple of tríes to get it to run. Is there anything I can do to get it to work normally again, or is it about to die? This is the error that displays before it locks up: Any help will be greatly appriciated. Thanks oZ

Hey Oz, Here is what I found on the Web. It is fairly recent. Not sure what it is telling you.
Resolution
UPDATED : July 18, 2016
Make sure the minimum supported levels of Windows and Shell32.dll are installed.
Minimum supported client Windows Vista [desktop apps only]
Minimum supported server Windows Server 2008 [desktop apps only]
Header Shlobj.h
DLL Shell32.dll (version 6.0.6000 or later)
Hope it helps. Good luck!!!

Looks like a bit of the name of the exe is cut off in the screenshot ... ___box.exe ? Is it something essential? You might be able to get away with uninstalling whatever this process is related to, or if you go to the Run prompt and type services.msc , in the startup tab you might find this exe and disable it so that it doesn't run automatically when you start windows.

When I use to run XP if I got this type of error I would usually start windows in safe mode to help track down what program was using this type of file. I would do that first, and well in safe mode I would scan your system for a virus or some such thing. Maybe it just got corrupted or even deleted ( check your trash bin for this file also ). If you get lucky to find out what program is using this file just reinstall that program would be the easy fix. Also check your start up / boot up programs maybe start to disable crap you don't need. Have you installed something new lately, and then uninstalled it? This might just be residue, if this is the case then you will need to delve into the registry to clean that out. Just some thoughts.
