So I finally decided to stop being lazy and make a thread for this film. Most of you have probably seen this trailer already, but I think a thread needs to be made anyway.
I'm excited for this movie. Of course the big thing to take away from the trailer is what Luke means by his line. While I don't think Luke will be evil in this movie, I do hope to see him be less restrained with the force. With modern special effects, he could really cause some havoc and I'd love to see it.
Also with The Force Awakens being a big hit, this is the chance for the director and screen writers to take more chances and really create a compelling story. I myself do really like the Force Awakens, and I was willing to roll with the nostalgia it brought. Abrams and his team were playing it safe and trying to spark new interest in the Star Wars universe and succeeded. Now it's time to really let the creativity flow, because I won't be as forgiving of nostalgia in The Last Jedi. Though Rian Johnson has said this film won't be a pseudo-clone of The Empire Strikes Back, and I'm willing to believe him.
Another thing that I hope for and expect the film to do is to dive more into the Force as Luke teaches Rey. The Force Awakens focused more on the action to keep the plot moving and the pace up, but I would have liked a little more time spent on the Force. And with that, there is speculation that Luke is having a meeting with Force ghosts in that cave. While it would classify as nostalgia, I can't deny I'd love to see a Jedi Force ghost council meeting with Yoda, Obi-Wan (I want a solo Obi-Wan movie darn it), Mace Windu, and even Anakin.
