I seen this today, Borg assimilation and SkyNet were a few of the first thoughts in my head.
TinFoil Hats Are Now Mandatory <- (link)
We are now at a time where the beginning/birth of what will eventually become the Singularity.
One of these discoveries/research we will look back at in the future and say that's when it began.
We won't know which one being in the present, so when research/discoveries are made like this you can look at it and ask yourself, "Is this it? Is this the genesis of what will become?"
The Singularity is predicted sometime between 2035 and 2050. It's when AI becomes SuperAI, smarter than all the people on the planet put together. Called the last invention we will ever make, no matter what the outcome. This moment in our History has been predicted since the 1940s. The Terminator as you know is based on that prediction. It's called a Singularity because once it happens, you can't predict what will happen after. Gets name from physics, math breaks down at the singularity in physics, don't know/can't predict what is beyond the singularity-center of a black hole/beginning of the Universe. The Printing Press in the past was a singularity, it took mankind out of the Dark Ages. An invention that completely changes human society and culture.
Two upcoming outcomes;
The Good: It is the last invention we ever make. Pretty much solves our all our problems.
The Bad: It's Skynet, and can do that it in a few ways. Most likely will be covertly and we will never see it coming, done, poof! Skynet would be a movie version, hehe Lotsa shooting and explosions. Reality-movie would be 1 hour and 59minutes of nothing, then poof! everyone is dead, roll credits. hehe. It can also be non malicious, like HAL in Space Odyssey 2001. HAL was given the mission to get the craft to Jupiter. It factored in that the astronauts were a variable risk to the mission, and it did what it did. Not in any anger or maliciousness. Just a computer being a computer.
We ask it to solve World hunger, and it kills us all. Problem solved right?
And who of mankind, should wrangle the power of a God? Add that to the final equation too.
...waiting on a PC to setup/update :/ ....figgered time for a ramble hehe
If the end of Humanity does come quick, I'll feel oh so cheated out of running around blowing up PCs and laptops with a shotgun.
(I do it now they'll arrest me :/ )
