Although my first memeroiesss were being 6-7 and beating up all the bullies/rude teachers with blunt objects. According to Big W I'm quite the "hell raiser"... Although I never beat my teachers with blunt objects... That just sounds like something a crazy person would do.

Awhile ago I cut a small potato in half as the start of an attempt at growing some potatoes. You too can grow potatoes at home if you're interested! www.wikihow.com/Grow-Potatoes-IndoorsAnyways after several months my potato plants were at the end of their life cycle so it was time to see if any potatoes had grown underground! From two small pots that were maybe 6" wide I harvested this (the potatoes on the right I grew, ones on the left are from the store ): Next I'd like to try this on a larger scale ... a few potatoes planted in one of those big plastic containers.

Just a potato follow up ... maybe the best tasting potatoes I've ever had!?
I don't attribute this to anything I did of course ... I think it's just the freshness of them. I dunno about you guys but I don't really ever get a chance to eat freshly picked potatoes, its always just commercially grown grocery store potatoes , so this was just like when you get any other fruit/veg/etc fresh picked compared to the stuff that gets brought on a truck or plane from somewhere and sits out at the store for who knows how long ... from the store everything ends up a little bland, but these fresh potatoes were just so damn potato-y! Like wow this is what a potato is SUPPOSED to be!
10/10 would grow again.

I like, not love tomatoes, but I hear homegrown tomatoes are an AMAZING example of something that tastes much better homegrown. I think it's easy too, but not sure. Gj on those taters tho tonnage!

Just got a couple outdoor potato grow bags and a box of seed potatoes (eyes have already started sprouting on the potatoes in the box) ... have some potting soil on the way so my legal potato grow op will be up and running in a day or two

Here's a shot of the outdoor potato situation ... plants seem to be doing pretty well, only been out there a couple weeks. Basically as they grow you just keep rolling the cuff of the bag up and adding dirt, pretty simple. There's some sort of slot in the bag for harvesting potatoes as well but I don't really get how that's supposed to work ... will just wait until the plants seem to have finished their life cycle and then dump the whole thing out and see whats there. My worry for outdoor potatoes is the potential for weird creepy crawly bugs living in the dirt and potatoes when I finally up-end the thing

Ton, look up natural remedies to keep bugs out. I just read that stretching pantyhose over the top will work but I don't think it will work with those bags. Also cayenne pepper sprinkled on the dirt, egg shells and dish soap are other alternatives, although I don't think dish soap would be wise with potatoes as they are porous and will absorb that. Just a suggestion.

Thanks I will look into that ... I did already have some sort of bug situation going on on top of one when I was out there today, picked up the nest thing and threw it away. Tomorrow I will dip into the spice rack and pre-season the taters

Here's a potato update ... it might not look like a lot has happened compared to the first picture, but you roll up the bag and add dirt as it grows to yield more potatoes, and I'm now pretty much at maximum capacity, so the plants have actually grown pretty tall since the last photo.

Did you use any natural remedies to keep the bugs out? If so what did you use?

Going off the cayenne pepper suggestion I ended up pouring a bunch red pepper flakes down, 'cuz I had a huge container and I rarely use it for cooking purposes anyways. I have added more soil on top of that a couple times now and I haven't put any more pepper down, but I also haven't noticed any new nests going on in there. Kind of a correlation / causation thing going on here ... I couldn't say for sure it was the pepper that kept bugs from returning , but I haven't had any problems with bugs since then, so I'd say it was at least worth a shot as a chemical-free deterrent.

That is good to know, thank you. I know we would love to do a few plants and I would try your bud deterrent out.

Holy heck, that stuff could rip out your insides. All you need to do now is to add a sliver of Carolina Reaper in there to complete your lethal weapon. I would like to try it tho''. #masochist (I did try a tiny sliver of Trinidad Scorpion last year, before a big presentation. Bad idea. My face had turned a different color and peeps thought there was something seriously wrong with me. I went to the work kitchenette and housed a bunch of UHT creamers - from those little packets. Didn't help. Besides those creamers taste terrible, unless you add them to your coffee. Lesson learned.)

Yeah I am guessing this will be the hottest of any hot sauce I've ever tried before. Should note though it was a pretty small dried one so hopefully blended up between two bottles it will not be too crazy. The Good Mythical Morning guys have done a couple pepper challenges with vomitous results: I gave the kit a 5/5 on Amazon 'cuz the company said they would send you some free stuff if you did Maybe they will send me more dried peppers to cleanse my colon.

For future reference, to help tame the heat after eating something hot eat some dark chocolate. Yes, I know this from experience.

My potato harvest from the outdoor plants was pretty abysmal, barely got any more than from the two in little pots I had in doors ... the plants were dying though and I figured there weren't gonna be any more potatoes happenin' below so I got rid of them. Don't have a picture of the potato harvest but it would basically look like my last potato pic except they are red potatoes. I'd say there are maybe 10 potatoes all about the same size as the ones in my last pic ... not very productive for all the dirt that went into those grow bags Anyways while I was out there I dug up and re-laid all the brick under the table them out to make it look a bit more presentable. I thought this picture would make everyone really appreciate how nice Boca's brick-work is though (also instead of making my bricks from a mold I took these from the house of a guy two doors down who had died)
