Ok, here's the scoop, you gents seem to be a whole lot more knowledgable than me when it comes to PC's, so let's give it a shot..... I've got a Nvidia 9250SE (yes piece of crap......you can stop laughing now.....no seriously, stop laughing.... ) When playing ET, my brightness will change to exteremely dark probably once every 3 to 4 maps. I go into ET settings - system - and calibrate brightness back and it fixes it. Then happens about 3-4 maps later again. Ironically it always seems to happen when I'm in the middle of ducking TinMan's bullets...@#$$% but that's a whole other issue...hehehe Should I just un-install ET? thanks for any help that everyone can provide......... Oh just in case it would help. 2.9 Celeron Processor (stop laughing again) 1 GB Ram Windows XP Service PK 2 Dual Hardrives, a 80GB and a 160 GB Not sure if any of this will be relevant in the conversation, as it seems to be a ET issue. Thanks again.

errr... Nvidia .. 9250? surely you mean ATI Radeon 9250??
anyway:
get your brightness set how you like it, then go into the console and do:
/r_ignorehwgamma 1
play a few maps and see if that helps. If not, set the brightness where you like it, then:
/r_gamma
note the value it returns, then:
/bind x r_gamma <value>
its a lame work around, but it will allow you to just hit "x" to reset your brightness whenever it goes off.

so here's my followup....... I tried the ignore gamma command, this did not prevent it. The n I tried the r_gamma then binding my gamma to a key. That works on one condition... I have to bind it before it goes dark everytime. If I forget to bind it now, my brigtness settings no longer work.. I can move the slider bar, but it still stays dark. No worries though, I've gotten into the binding habit.. Not sure why I have to re-bind it everytime though. My other binds don't get removed...hmmmmm Thanks for all of the help Zohar.....

"Piece for some reason did you download the last Ati Drivers?"
Yes, I try to check for updated drivers once a month....so I've been keeping on top of them.
"just put the bind in your autoexec therefore you dont have to put it in every single time..."
As for the autoexec, I'm not computer literate enough to attempt this. Is there a thread anywhere that describes what to and not to do.....?
Thanks for all the insight guys.

Well the reason why you get that gamma error is because you downloaded the last Ati drivers. I happened to me too several times, every now and then ATI releases an update with that same error. I just Downloaded the last ATI drivers and the same happens to me too, guess ill have to roll back to the old drivers till they come up with some new ones.

To make an autoexec all you do is:
Notepad > Type "bind x "r_gamma YOURVALUE HERE" > Save as Autoexec.cfg"
Make sure it is in the cfg format. When in game, type "/exec autoexec". After that, it loads up everytime.
Oh you can also put other cvars and binds aswell.
BTW
Put this in your ETMAIN Folder.

just put the bind in your autoexec therefore you dont have to put it in every single time... or you can just bind it on the wolf et main page (i.e. before you enter the server). then it will set the bind no matter what server mod you enter (etpro, etpub, etc.)
