I had a 1.5mbps - with 300kbps upload - connection in my old house. In spite of the high ping(about 200), I could play reasonably. Now, in my new place, I have(please don't laugh ) a 600Kbps connection - with SAME 300kbps upload -, and I'm getting sick because in spite of the SAME ping(about 200), and SAME ISP, I'm lagging SO MUCH! Well, I'm thinking in change the connection to a better one JUST to play ET better than now. So, my ISP offers 2 options: 01 - 1.5mbps with 300kbps upload, the same I had(too expensive, by the way); 02 - 600kbps with 512kbps upload, called "gamer connection"(the half of the price ). According to my ISP, the "gamer connection" is better for games because the upload speed. According to them, I will get LOWER PING and will be "the end of the lag" just because the higher upstream. So please, my dear friends who understand about internet connections, what must I do? Note: I don't care about downloads, I just want to get a better Enemy Territory ping and less lag than I have today. I will really appreciate if you help me. A hug!

Sorry beer, I'm not very tech savy, I know just enough to get myself in trouble.
However I do look forward to the responses and this could cause me to change my connection. I pay entirely to much a month for it. Don't get me wrong, it's worth it to play on such a fine server, but I'm all about saving a buck or two.... ;D Guess I should change my name to TheCheapReaper...heheh

Its Cable or Dsl Beer? Cable = more latency Dls = more dl speed, less latency
Online games require more latency

Well, I did it yesterday. I'm using now 600kbps downstream / 512kbps upstream. My ping is the same(about 200), but happily the lag decreased substantially, and the game is running smoothly then before. Actually, in spite that I am the worst ET player of the world, I noticed that I'm hitting a little bit more and now my on-game-screen is no longer freezing/flickering(I dunno the correct word) like hell. Conclusion: the response time is better than before, so I'm happy now(will become more happy when some day I start to use a 3mbps connection ). A 512kbps hug!

Its Cable or Dsl Beer? Cable = more latency Dls = more dl speed, less latency Online games require more latency latency is bad. you want less latency. latency=ping, the lower, the better. it is also independant of connection type, although some DSL providers use a technique called interleaving which adds latency (the birth of the "DSL is worse for games" myth.) In reality, neither one is inherently "better" for games. It depends entirely on the line quality, routing path, and equipment/load ratio of each ISP. In many cases, it even varies based on which headend or DSLAM you are on. Upload bandwidth does NOT matter past 256kb!; higher upload only matters when the data being sent is greater than available bandwidth. ET uses roughly 35kb (thats kiloBITS) per second... a 256kb upload will be exactly the same as a 1mbit upload, IF they are using the same network.

Not for sure.. they may have thier "gaming" connections on a non-interleaved DSLAM, which will make ping better. They may also have them on less crowded DSLAMS... could be worth it, you have to try it and see!

And you should edit your config according to the connection that you have, this will not lower you ping but hey you will have a stable ping (lagometer will be a flat line )

--------- "cl_timenudge" should be set if you have a slow connection. ---------- Lan - "cl_timenudge 0" DSL/Cable - "cl_timenudge 0/-10" ISDN - "cl_timenudge -20/-30" 56k - "cl_timenudge -30/-50" It doesn´t mean that since you have DSL you´re going to use "cl_timenudge -10" I have a DSL connection 512/128 and I use cl_timenudge -30, also cl_maxpackets should have the same value as your fps, in my case I can get 76fps stable but I use com_maxfps 43 to use cl_maxpackets 40 Rate should be around 25000 and snaps around 40. You prolly already have your configs with these values but if you don´t try them out. For the rest reading this post if you guys have no problems with unstable pings and lag don´t be messing around your configs, cause you know, if it isn´t broken don´t fix it. Peace and Love

Beer i strongly recommend you not to tweak the timenudge. Pb will kick you from many servers with your timenudge set to less than 0.

Not true tbh, I´m telling you from my own experience, I´ve participated in a few cups (at clanbase while living in POrtugal) and never had any problems nor pb related nor admin CB related. Peace and Love
