Hey gore and guys Nice to see u here. I dont wanna be offensive, but i think that dan brown wrote the worst books in this planet . If u like the controversy and u wanna read crappy things , this is a good title for feed the vocabulary or fill a space in the library ;D Ima Christian Catholic, and i think that this book is a offense for the values of the church. Im defending my faith and i am some traditionalistic. Just my point of view. Personally, i prefer authors like Isaac Asimov, Grass, Marse, Frank Herberth and some books of Orson Scott Card. The true writers dont need the controversy for make a good and very nice book. vIn

I'm a Catholic born and raised and in my opinion Mr. Brown's books are a total farc..... wait what am I saying, I loved the Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons. Digital Fortress was also a very good read.
Vin, I do understand why you do not like it and why you find it offensive. TBH I do agree that it is not exactly a sophisticated novel, which it is considered to be by many unsophisticated people. However, at least in my mind and everyone I know, his style is easy, fun and altogether refreshing. I for one am looking forward to his next novel, which in D.C. and features the Masons.
Sure they are controversial subjects and the writing is nothing out of this world but the tone, pace, and story just have that X-factor that makes for good reading.
Turn off your brain, sit down in a comfortable seat and enjoy it. Just do remember that it should be taken with a grain of salt.
Just on a personal note though: In the Da vinci Code what what was being attacked was the Catholic Church as an institution (which frankly I think it deserves, and again thats coming from a Catholic). It should be mentioned here that a lot of what was said in those books about the politics that went in to the creation of the church is historical fact. Whats important to me though is that it was not attacking the religion itself. In fact, I found that the issue, or conspiracy theory rather, was treated rather tastefully on the Jesus side of the story. Would it make any difference if Jesus had a child? I think not, not in the least. I heard the same arguments about Dogma on the idea of Mary having had other children, does it matter that she lived he life as a virgin? I think not, and I also find it truly hard to believe. That still would not change the significance of the virgin birth earlier in her life, not one bit.
Anyway, those are my two cents.
PS, my priest at university likes these books! Shhhhhhh.

IMHO Angels and Demons was a better read. But who can't love Robert Langdon? Hey gore and guys Nice to see u here. (or... more accurately.. a Humanist.) And I don't want to start a debate here... but how is the idea of Jesus loving a woman and even marrying her so offensive to the church?

You are right. Asimov is an atheist, but their books and their stories have a great imaginarie content and he never talk about a spicy theme like the religion. Personally, i like the sci-fi books and i compare to Isaac Asimov with Julio verne (someone say me how fek write in english). So, i admire the capacity of Asimov by create imaginary worlds that during its time they were unimaginable. (1950 wtf, and the powerful MULTIVAC) vIn. A link for which they want to read a liltle storie of isac asimov. www.multivax.com/last_question.html

Yes, Isaac Asimov is indeed awesome. He has been one of my favorite writers since I was a child. The short story "The Last Question" is one of his best, and I recommend that everyone who hasnt read it give it a look. Vin, I hate to break it to you, but Asimov wrote quite extensively on the topic of religion, mostly on how harmful religion (not necessarily spiritual beliefs, however) is to science and rationality. He also wrote several books on the bible specifically, (see Asimov's Guide to the Bible) "When [he] died in 1992 at the age of 72 he had nearly 500 books to his credit (and by some accounts more than that), with topics ranging from Shakespeare and world history to science textbooks and literally everything in between." He was also a PhD, and held 14 honory PhDs in various fields. Here is a link to an abreviated lsit of his articles on religion: www.asimovonline.com/oldsite/Essays/religion.htmlSome quotations: "To surrender to ignorance and call it God has always been premature, and it remains premature today." -- Isaac Asimov "Humanity has the stars in its future, and that future is too important to be lost under the burden of juvenile folly and ignorant superstition." -- Isaac Asimov " Imagine the people who believe such things and who are not ashamed to ignore, totally, all the patient findings of thinking minds through all the centuries since the Bible was written. And it is these ignorant people, the most uneducated, the most unimaginative, the most unthinking among us, who would make themselves the guides and leaders of us all; who would force their feeble and childish beliefs on us; who would invade our schools and libraries and homes. I personally resent it bitterly..." -- Isaac Asimov, Canadian Atheists Newsletter, 1994 "To rebel against a powerful political, economic, religious, or social establishment is very dangerous and very few people do it, except, perhaps, as part of a mob. To rebel against the "scientific" establishment, however, is the easiest thing in the world, and anyone can do it and feel enormously brave, without risking as much as a hangnail. Thus, the vast majority, who believe in astrology and think that the planets have nothing better to do than form a code that will tell them whether tomorrow is a good day to close a business deal or not, become all the more excited and enthusiastic about the bilge when a group of astronomers denounces it." -- Isaac Asimov "...if I were not an atheist, I would believe in a God who would choose to save people on the basis of the totality of their lives and not the pattern of their words. I think he would prefer an honest and righteous atheist to a TV preacher whose every word is God, God, God, and whose every deed is foul, foul, foul." -- Isaac Asimov, "I. Asimov: A Memoir" "The Bible contains legendary, historical and ethical contents. It is quite possible to consider them separately, and one doesn't have to accept the legends in order to get the ethics. Fundamentalists make a grave mistake to insist on the letter of the writings, because they drive away many who can't swallow the Adam-and-Eve bit" -- Isaac Asimov, "I. Asimov: A Memoir" "We owe it to ourselves as respectable human beings, as thinking human beings, to do what we can to make humanity more rational...Humanists recognize that it is only when people feel free to think for themselves, using reason as their guide, that they are best capable of developing values that succeed in satisfying human needs and serving human interests." -- Isaac Asimov "Creationists make it sound as though a theory is something you dreamt up after being drunk all night." -- Isaac Asimov You really should read what he has to say on the topic. As usual he is incredible incisive and insightful. Defintely dont allow your personal beliefs to affect your reading habits. Sad at best, dangerous at worst.

Dan Brown`s books found very interesting but i don`t consider them BIG ones (they are bestsellers so it means that public loves it and that don`t mean a sht about their artistic value) p.s. About Jesus and Marie (have u watched The last Temptation of Christ www.imdb.com/title/tt0095497/).

I have read a few D. Brown's books and I found them entertaining. For me they play out like the Indiana Jones movies. The stories he write's are enjoyable with enough mystery and intrigue to keep you interested and going to the last page. On a side note I found the ambigrams in Angels and Demons, and in particular the elemental diamond, to be very well done and a nice touch.
But I think it is important to treat them for what they are; a piece of fiction designed to entertain people and make him money.

I've read all Dan Brown but Inferno! He is an amazing author.
Do you guys know Glenn Cooper? If not, you should probably try to read his book "library of the dead" and if you enjoy it, read the sequel "book of souls"... I enjoy him as mush as Dan Brown and I think you'll probably do too! Give it a try!
