First of all, ET was pretty solid when I used to play with XP, but now since installing Win7, its much less stable. I am running it in XP SP2 compatibliity mode and running as admin, but it seems I cant play long before the video gets all garbled, the audio locks up, and I have to force quit. Im not sure that it is OS related though
The weird thing is that it really LOOKS like GPU overheating, because it gets all pixely and distorted... if youve seen what overheating graphics card looks like youll know what Im talking about. But I just did some temp monitoring while playing ET and WarIII to get an idea of what kind of temps we are talking about, and I found that ET runs about 8-10 C COOLER than when running WarIII. ET maxed out around 87 C (yes this is pretty hot, but we are talking about a laptop, not a desktop, and max temp for the card should be 105 C). Anyway, my point is that WarIII maxed out at 97 C (again, crazy hot) but is rock solid, while ET maxed out at 87 C and crashes every 20 min or so.
So what do you think? Temp related? Win 7 related? Id be happy to get one of those laptop cooling stands (I hear Zalman is good), but I want to be sure that it will solve the problem before I drop 50+ dollars on one.
[EDIT] also I suspect this problem can only get worse when I get the new monitor I just ordered, which will be running a much much higher res

I'm playing Wolfenstein on Windows 7 for several months now. I'm running compatibility windows xp sp3 and I set the "compatibility for all users" to "run this program as an-administrator". Since I started to play with this computer, my only problem was related to punkbuster (needed to update it with the software). In fact, punkbuster was a problem on many games like Quake Wars. So I guess it's not Windows 7 related. But, I dont know. Which version of 7 do you have? I have 7 64-bit Ultimate, never had problems with any games.

WOW, 87-105 pfff That would fry my card........desktop doesnt get over 48 C. orso (yes yes, its about a laptop, but still)
Can't give you an answer on W7, but to cool things down, Zalman have good coolers. Good luck.

On the compatibility tab also check off Disable visual themes and desktop composition. It may be just the laptop vid chip can't handle the background stuff at the same time.

Ahah you're right R3z!n.. I had to do that to be able to run GTK Radiant.. it was bugging on screen makin software unable to be used... But I guess he can't do more than that. If it still bug, it wont be W7 I guess. Maybe hardware stuff or something.
And about res, I'm running 1920 x 1080 and no problem here aswell. What's your res?

Meuuh so I think it's not res. I played Wolf on computer with 1024x780, 1600x1050 and 1920x1080 and It was not a problem. The only thing I can't do is, for example, running Quake Wars with higher res than 1024x780 because it lags too much but no crash. And 7 is fine for me. Ultimate and 64-bit (compatibility windows XP SP 3) and you can add the trick of R3z!n about the theme.
But I guess you're problem is not here. Well, is it the only game that bugs? Or you have some other problems with other softwares?

Game booster ftw XD haha. What kind of processor and graphics card is your laptop running? I used to have the same pixalating problem on my desktop when I was playing civ 4 and oblivion (even though the graphics card didn't get very hot >.>) If your playing on such a high res could be causing some overheating issues with et. Also what make is your laptop? Some brands just glitch with certain things for no apparent reason so it might be worth seeing if thats a common glitch for your brand before you buy a cooling stand.

Well disabling visual themes, etc, changing from Sp2 compat to SP3 seemed to work . I played for 2 hrs today with no problems, although the GPU was still around 88C

Was having a similar problem on my new pc with vista64. Screen would freeze and sounds repeating over and over. Wouldn't let me crtl+alt+del. updated vid card drivers, ran in compatibility mode, as admin, etc and turned off settings in the nvidia controls. problem was still there. Did everything google said and problem was still there. Upgraded to Win7 and it went away. Sometimes the game does crash at the end of fueldump though. Not sure if its etpub mod or the map.

Woow... I can say my wolf already crashed but.. it was not all at same time like map ending. God damn, things are too strange for my little brain. Maybe.. I guess.. that the "compatibility" thing is not that perfect ahah. XD
