Good question mang. I think during the war, they had a mouse running on a wheel to generate electricity - so not sure exactly how much power was generated to calculate voltage rating. I suppose it depended on the mouse - don't you think? Anyway - in all seriousness, I think I'm the worst on here to impart hardware advice since I play on a 9 year old machine (that can really only just run ET - I think). And I have some small speakers with the game volume set to low - just so that I can better focus on sluggl3 and porky's Hall and Oates impressions. Having said that, I read on here that the following is a decent pair built for gaming. Be warned tho' that it doesn't run on 64 bit windows 7. And you'll need to adjust the default 7.1 settings for games that don't support that. www.amazon.com/Razer-Megalodon-Surround-Gaming-Headset/dp/B002EVPBH0/ref=pd_ybh_6?pf_rd_p=280800601&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_t=1501&pf_rd_i=ybh&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=13KBWGF97G3XE2H1Z5GB

I have a Razer. Love the sound quality. Looks: badass. My only problem is that the cord gets tangled VERY easily. It comes down to the material that the wires are encased in. It is a constant annoyance. To the point where I am honestly not sure if I would buy another one.

DON'T BUY WITH A MIC!!!
the whole concept just doesn't make any sense. Buy a pair of badass headphones and then by a 5 dollar clip on mic. Then, you can use your new headphones anytime, anywhere, without a mic sticking out, and you can still use them when you want to game and have a mic!
why spend money on a pair of headphones and then on a headset when you only have to spend money on one!
Consider it one of my pet peeves, but whenever I see a gaming headset for sale I throw a large shoe at my monitor.
If you don't mind having a mic stick out when your listening to music on the subway then my whole point is moot but the mic's on the headphones I have encountered tend to get in the way.

Have a Plantronics Gamecom (yes yes aviynw, you can hide the mic so it looks like you only have headphones ahahahaha) www.gamegear.be/images/plan_gamecom377.jpgI had for few years a cheap headset that was delivered with IP phones (where my dad was working). I guess I would be able to keep those ones for some more years since they are not cheap that much ahah. Anyway, have fun.

This is for Mr. Ther Twain. I must say that was very clever of you. You asked for headphones advice and I ended up buying the headphones (razer megalodon) ;D So you owe me $139 to pay for my buyers remorse (esp. since I have 4-5 other headphones at home I believe). Anyway - for the review. As with anything you buy from Razer, the packaging is fantastic lol. This is the most important part of the review. Yes, the packaging. The headphones are huge (that's what she said - sorry)... and feel really, really comfortable. Once again, really, really comfortable. The ear padding is muy bien. Sound quality is great - but it's a pair of headphones. I guess any decent pair would sound good. You have a button that switches between 7.1 and 2.0 (stereo). ET sounds better on 2.0 (7.1 sounds strange esp. on Tank Race - "veeeev repaaaaized ze tank" ). However, I've read some of the newer games sound really good with 7.1 turned on. Also, you've got external volume controls, and mic controls, and you can offload the sound processing from your PC to the headphone's on-board processor. Lastly I haven't tried the mic yet. 0 of 1534 have found this review helpful

I have been wearing Sennheiser HD280 pro 64 ohms for the past 2 years. They were on sale at Newegg or Buy.com one day.
These things are very powerful, the 7.1 headset gives your ears a 360 picture of all sounds around you.
I highly recommend this headphone. Great piece of machinery, especially if picked up onsale.
