OK here goes, tonight when i switched on the PC i noticed my cooling fans were running at a proper cool down pace( aka on full), so i check my CPU usage and for some apparent reason both my inter i7 chips were running at 100%, thats 16 cores running at full power, now went into my resource monitor and every thing was fine apart from one file called FahCore_a3.exe( see pic ) first pic is with it on and its like this all the time when its on, and picture 2 shows it off(suspended) now i have looked into this file name and it says it has something to do with folding@home, but i don't have anything by this name on my PC, could someone please shed some light onto what this program does and why its screwing with my PC, cheers picture one picture 2

this is a 'linked computer' project at stanford university. basically, it acts like a rendering farm for bioengineering projects. the software that is necessary for your pc to become part of the project is a download, so you or someone with access to your pc would have had to install it. i would think you can just uninstall it....it does suck up the resources, tho.

Sup uncle joker, from what i see the those pics, try to do the following: open ur task manager, then go to FahCore_a3.exe, right click on it and then go to the process, that file opens 12 threads on ur cpu, and thats not a normal behaviuor of a app. try to stop the process, then stop the FahCore_a3.exe file. It would be helpfull to search on ur PC what program is linked to that file/process to check it out for viruses worms and such.
cheers

geeky nitpick If the rig is built well and has a thermal solution adequate to the task, a CPU wont mind running at 100% all the time. I used to fold for AMDZone back in the early 2000's... every CPU in the house was at 100%, 24/7. /geeky nitpick Also, the chances are good that what you DLed was a hack, using F@H's distribution system. Normally I wouldnt jump to that conclusion, but you hit one of the big three of malware delivery - porn, gambling, and illegal DLs.

I use ccleaner to remove stuff like that. www.piriform.com/you can adjust start up items and such too. The kids go to alot of questionable sites that slow down the computers so I use that to speed them back up!
