Hey
so im tired of playing ET with 40 fps and generally having a bad slow pc.
i have found the following pc
ATI Radeon HD5450 512mb Graphics Card
AMD Dual Core 3.1Ghz Processor
Asrock N68-GS3 Motherboard
2 x 2GB DDR3 Elite Memory
450W Power Supply
DVD + - R/RW Rom
Windows 7 home premium
500 GB Hard Drive 7200RPM
All for £320 = 502.313 USD
What i want to know is, is it worth the price?
are the components good or is there much better around the same price?
Would i get stable 125 fps in ET in all areas?
E: some have suggested me to go for a better PSU and an nvidia graphics card for ET, what ydo you thiink ?
cheers <3

A stronger PSU is always better. However, that hardware is too new to run ET at 125 stable. The sweet spot for ET was around 2002-2004. GeForce 4 Ti and 6 series, Athlon XPs and early A64s, DDR400 and DDR2800, etc. That stuff was geared specifically towards DX8 and OpenGL 1.2, while newer stuff has dropped hardware acceleration for some OGL 1.2 and DX8 functions that ET relies on, making them slower on newer hardware. ET also doesn't like multicore processors, it greatly prefers a native single core environment (doesn't do as well even if you set it to run on only one core). To answer the question - I would look into a better PSU and motherboard for $500... I would also want to know the make/models of the ram and drives. And the amount of cache and interface on the hard drive. To answer the other question - if you want a raging ET machine, start scouring eBay for older parts.

Looks good . . Sucks being on a budget eh . I would however go with at least a 500 or 550 watt power supply , give you some wiggle room in case you want to add another hard drive or different vid card down the line . I would also go with 4gb of ram, or more if possible, depending on whether you are using a 32 bit or a 64 bit os . 32 bit os will only read 3-3.5 gb of ram . With a 64 bit os the only limit is what the max ram is on your mother board. You putting it together yourself ? If you are make sure you get an anti static wrist strap to ground yourself against a static discharge . That way you won't zap anything before you get to use it .

I've been upgrading my video card everytime it breaksdown thinking it might play ET better but it hasn't. I'm currently running an 8600GTS but I still tend to get dropped FPS. Interesting...
