Been getting ET crashes daily now since the last 5 or 6 weeks........sometimes 3 or 4, up to 8 or 9 crashes a day.....also on diff. servers. Sometimes it feels kinda laggy just before, but in a diff. way then, lets say "the normal lag". Even as spec, ET has crashed. First the image freezes up and I can't do anything.....Limbo, console or esc don't work, not even ETminimizer. The only way I can exit ET is using Ctrl, Alt, Delete. This started to happen about 1 or 2 weeks before I tried reinstalling Windows XP...where something went wrong and lost all data, so I had to install Windows XP new, but offcourse ET also. Reinstalling Windows really changed the speed in a positive way, but for ET and its crashes, nothing changed, 3-4 weeks after fresh reinstall of everything. I know I'm not the only one with this problem (Bluey,Delikadir).....but does anyone have a solution or idea's. Easiest is to blame PB. ;D

It really could be a number of things, but perhaps start with checking the fans on your gfx card. I have had this problem a number of times and sometimes has been caused by overheating and sluggish gfx performance.

Yeh , I have this problem also. I have 2 installs of ET, on different drives . If one doesnt work I'll use the other, sometimes with success other times they both crash. I thought it was the graphics card too at first .. so I took the sides off my box for more airflow (summer here), but still got crashes. I then downloaded latest nvidia drivers (8800gts320) still crashes. Some days I get lucky with only 1 crash after 3 hours of play.. other days like Solex sais 7 or 8 crashes in 30 minutes, after which I give up. Weird.

I think it has lots to do with how you "fresh" you keep your computer + ET. Reason being, every time I get a crash I normally will go through my ETpub + Etmain folders and delete all my etconfigs and any junk mods that were downloaded from other servers + sounds packs etc. Then I normally do a Defrag - recently I've tried using AusLogic ( www.auslogics.com/en/) free software, and works great. I also use Ccleaner ( www.piriform.com/) on a daily basis to keep my laptop clear of any junk files also (also free). Also on a side note: Try upgrading to Patch 2.60b. I've been using a program that changes it for you, rather than people having to manually put files where they're supposed to be. It's called EtVersionChanger. ( returntocastlewolfenstein.filefront.com/file/Enemy_Territory_Version_Changer_v_05500;74801). If you need help setting the patch w/ that lemme know. Good luck.

It really could be a number of things, but perhaps start with checking the fans on your gfx card. I have had this problem a number of times and sometimes has been caused by overheating and sluggish gfx performance. I have a small proggy called Speedfan, it measures all kinds of hardware temps. One of them is my GFC temp.....which is while not playing 30 celsius and hardly ever gets higher then 40/42 celsius (sorry, dunno Fahrenheit) @ Bluey: mmhh, I have the 8800GT 512mb TOP (Asus) version.........coinsedence? @ Quick: Like i said in my first post.....it crashed several times just befored I reinstalled everything and nothing changed for me after a fresh reinstall of everything. I play on the same 2 servers (3 if you count Customs) since 2009. Also I haven't changed anything else.....same GFC, same memory. I don't have MSN or Xfire installed anymore, just to rule out those things.....it hasnt made a difference. I've used patch 2.60b as long as I can remember. I have Windows installed on 1 partition and ET on a different one, also where I keep my data. This set-up I also had before the reinstall of everything. The funny thing is, others can't even see I disconnected coz of crash, they only see me reconnect.

i get the same crash too, but lately it's been some sound getting stuck in a loop and the game hanging. only way i can get out is to alt+ctrl+del and logoff/restart pc...i use speedfan as well and altho some of the fans are making some funny noises, nothing seems wrong temperature wise...

I have this problem too, usually happens about once or twice a day before I give up playing and do something else lolz ^_^ very frustrating it is... The game freezes, sound keeps looping and yes the only way I can get out of it is ctrl+alt+delete and then turn the game back on.

SP3 What graphics card chip set (ATI XXXX or NVIDIA XXXX), and driver version? 8800 is Nvidia, i think newest driver...not sure What, if any, antivirus/antimalware/firewall programs are you running? Avira antivir Personal (its free version ) and Windows firewall The thing is, before I reinstalled everything I had exactly the same problem.......so after reinstalling everything and not changing anything, I keep getting the same problems......... And as it seems, I'm not alone there.

Hi again,
Do you have better luck playing with reduced graphics, sound etc. Guess you already have no atomospheric affects and no draw gun etc. How about switching off sound.
Do you get the same issue playing at a lower resolution?
Perhaps having a look at some of the settings in the Nvidia control panel to reduce load.
I am guessing that you only get this issue when playing ET (do you have any other games like CSS, does the same thing occur?).
I did have an issue with poor performance in online games once that turned out to be the power supply. I just happened to have a spare as I was clutching at straws with the problem but changing the PSU resolved my issue. I did not see any performance issues with any standard apps.
Your problem does seem to be a hardware issue with the strange lag, but just to discount the usual suspect, have you tried a non PB server?
PS. I also have a 8800GTX (x2 on SLI).

Man the past few days its happening to me too!! Before this I would maybe occasionally have ET crash and lock up once every 4 or 5 months but now the past 3 or 4 days its happened of least once per an ET gaming session! Is this the newest PB bug? If so its the worst one yet.

One thing to remember when et crashes it creates a file in the et pubmod profile folder called profile.pid. DELETE this file BEFORE running et again. Also download a program called crap cleaner (now called ccleaner) after a crash run it, it cleans out the reg entry for the .pid file.

hmm.
Aelf was having this problem recently... deleting the ETpub directory and letting it be remade on the next connection fixed it.

I started crashing about 2 weeks ago...and serious "time outs" and lag spikes, which I never really had before. Today I deleted everything that had "Enemy Territory" on it and reinstalled a fresh copy..even used a stock profile with no cfg. Crashed within 2 minutes. :/
