heyyyyyyyy
my computer died BIG time.
i put comp into standby, next day pushed power button
everything sounded good, but no post beep & no signal to monitor
i did the typical troubleshooting, eventually bought and tried a new graphics card and cpu(processor) - didn't help
tried booting with no drives connected, made sure memory and everything was seated properly
eventually decided it must be the motherboard
installed a new motherboard - on first boot i got to windows and watched as xp automatically tried to install motherboard drivers - (i had my original old graphics card installed btw)
i restarted the computer with intention of installing drivers from cd and got error - "pci.sys is missing or corrupt" - (i had also installed a new graphics card before the reboot)
i put my xp cd in, intending to use recovery console to fix problem - no luck - after recovery console loaded and windows began to start, i got blue screen of death with error -
pci.sys missing or corrupt
i disconnected both hard drive and got same problem
i tried switching memory around, being sure cpu is seated, resetting bios, having no graphics card (or any other expansion card), everything i could think of
i finally bought a brand new hard drive, and STILL get pci.sys missing or corrupt.
pci.sys sounds like it should be a system file, yet the error seems to have nothing to do with the hard drives.
YET, i'm using a new motherboard and have tried a new graphics card and cpu
the only thing i havn't replaced is the memory
so, if you're with me this long, thanks - i appreciate your time and i owe you
any ideas? my next step is to take the whole mess to Fry's and leave it with them - but i'm pretty much broke
i can barely cover the diagnostic fee right now
buying another computer is out of the question
thanks for your time?
