tryin to switch from dual core to single w/ linux...i have cpu0 and cpu1, and tried
sudo sh -c "echo 0 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/online"
^^^dynamic method which should'nt require a reboot, but doesnt make any difference in game.
I then tried moding the grub cmdline so it would boot w/ only 1 CPU
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" and changed it to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash maxcpus=1"
...which according to my research should be the right line. I then updated grub and rebooted, only to find both CPU's still running. Any ideas?

OK problem semi solved..opened grub menu on boot and added maxcpus=1 to the end of the kernel line, which boots it with 1 cpu. The only other problem is this isnt permanent, i have to do this every boot. Of course editing the grub cmdline should have made this permanent, however it does'nt seem to be working. I can survive putting it in every boot although its anooying, anyone (DISCO!? ) have any ideas on how to make this stick?

I've got a motherboard that has BIOS settings to disable cores. But seeing how old a dual core might be, it might not be there for you. Just something to look into.
