Hi all, I have a new laptop with Widows 8, AMD A6 quad core, plenty of power to run ET. But, when I connect to the server, I only get single digit FPS. Initially, I was connecting wirelessly, so I went out and bought a 25ft network cord and now, I'm directly linked into my router. Still, I have single digit FPS. I need help!!!
Thanks

Hey,
What is the version of your ATI driver? I do know that some FPS probs can occure with drivers version up to 13.4.
There is a cvar which can help a lot : seta r_primitives 2 But i don't know if the qaw server is restricting this cvar.

Im sure of one thing, its a graphics settings issue..I however do not know Win8 really at all. Only ever used one game on there and it fixed by using compatability mode with winXP

I have been running as admin in compatibility mode. What is the desktop compo? Vid card: AMD radeon HD 8400. Driver version 13.152.0.0. I'll update it and see what it does.

Some of the new driver versions are not compatible with ET. Try rolling back an older version of your graphic card drivers.

hmm just remembered..its not ET but I can no longer play flight sim 2000 cause of graphics issues. I finally gave up couple months ago. Really jerky etc. low frame rate but I never worked on it hard enough to figure it out. the Lethal man might have something there.

I have been running as admin in compatibility mode. What is the desktop compo? Vid card: AMD radeon HD 8400. Driver version 13.152.0.0. I'll update it and see what it does. Same place where you set compatibility. There is an option "disable desktop composition". Back in days, it helped me with some video issues on certain software. So when I have games that rush or have video issues, I always try this settings. Worse it can do is "nothing" if you check it. Else there is another option hold on EDIT: Here we go -> When you are in game, go in console and type /seta r_primitives 2 PLEAAAAAAAAAAAAASE dont set it to 3 by mistake else you'll start to cry trust me (no worry, if you set it to 3, you can blindly set it back to 2 or 1, just you can't see what's on screen). Give it a try. I know many players fixed their issues about FPS with this variable. Else, you have the same problem as I have on my new computer. It's too recent and doesnt support that old game so my FPS is stuck at 30 (better than 1 digit only but really terrible to play efficiently). SO the other thing is to lower you driver to an older version. Personally, i didnt had patience to do that so I just got back playing on my old computer

Are you still experiencing lag problems in your computer? It could be an issue with the selected video card, most laptops have two video cards one for basic tasks and another one for applications that demand more power for rendering like videos games ... there's an automated routine which selects the video card that is going to be used for the current application, so my first guess is that the driver is not recognizing Enemy territory as a supported application so i doesn't actually switch to the dedicated card and that's why you're having massive lag. Could you tell me the exact laptop model that you have?

I FINALLY solved the problem. I had to go into Catalyst control center under the 3D settings and disable the "Override application settings" function. I also set r_primitives 2 in game for good measure. Now, I have 50-80 fps. I have my limit set at 80. I am a happy boy.
