My current setup was just not cutting it for streaming H.264 and other internet issues around my house (2 story with basement). I am trying to stream my home media server to many wifi devices. Here is my current network setup: Here was Option 1. Upgrade MoCa w/Ubiquiti AP (~$365 from Amazon): Here was Option 2. Netgear Orbi ($380 from Amazon): I was looking for most bang for my buck, with most increase in performance, with fairly easy install and management, and some flexibility to grow in the future. I bought the Netgear Orbi from Amazon ($379 - $23 in Discover rewards - $25 in Bing Rewards - 5% discover cashback = $312). I just took out my R7000 and put the Orbi router upstairs. Then put the Satellite Orbi downstairs where my media server is located, but kept the MoCa in the chain so far. I have connected the server to the Satellite Orbi but kept the HD Homerun on the MoCa for now. And now for the results and comparison between R7000 2.4GHZ, R7000 5GHZ, and Orbi: Office - Kitchen - Basement Family Room - 2nd Floor Master Bedroom - Server - The largest improvement and most noticeable is the downstairs family room. I have an LG Roku TV and watching streaming shows on it was a huge pain in the ass. It now flies! Same with the chromecast on the downstairs bedroom tv. Crazy improvement. I am so far quite happy with this investment. Thoughts?

Congrats looks good! I didn't need as much horsepower as you so when my Comcast provided modem/router combo died. I went with the Motorola SURFboard SB6141 SOCSIS 3.0 cable modem and the Netgear Nighthawk AC1750 Smart WiFi Router. According to speedtest.net I'm getting 126.25 down and 12.01 up. Before it was 70ish down and 7 up. I too have 2 floors and a basement and I can say my range and performance really improved with this set up. It helped that I had a buddy with a Costco membership so I got it pretty reasonable .

Yeah I got my Netgear AC1900 R7000 from Walmart on a price mistake a not this last Black Friday but the one before for like $90! It served me well for quite a long time, but my basement was just a deadzone. I tried several different things to remedy it (turning old Dlink 825 into AP via MoCA, Netgear range extender, etc.) but it just wasn't cutting it with my wireless only devices. I am still trying to figure out what to do with the R7000. I might end up turning it into an AP or just selling it on eBay or to a friend/neighbor. If you are getting those speeds throughout your house, that is awesome. This Orbi setup was a god send for us though.

This is a lot of Tech stuff... headacke... You do realize you are in the ET/PC Technical section of the forum, don't you?? I think I made it a bit overcomplicated, but I had fun seeing the before and after results. I just need to figure out the kitchen area (might be LED bulbs or a dimmer causing the interference) and the entire house will be covered in 100Mbps speed! [Tim the Toolman Taylor Grunt]

Quick update...I sold all my Orbi stuff and swapped it all out for a new Unifi setup from Ubiquiti. See other post regarding my new network closet.
