There are two games coming out in November of this year I was curious about: Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Call of Duty WWWII. With Call of Duty going back to the Second World War and Battlefront 2 introducing a single player campaign and all of the eras, they both sounded promising. It's been a long time since I've been excited for a new video game and since I've considered buying a game for full price. But after seeing the E3 footage of both, my vote is going Battlefront. After the first Battlefront got mixed reviews (understandably since it was a shell of a game at release and you had to pay extra for the DLC), it appears EA is listening to the feedback, which is quite un-EA like. And after seeing E3 footage, I am much more excited for Battlefront 2. I'm personally not a fan of some of the things they're doing in Call of Duty's multiplayer, and while the single player intrigues me I'd rather see what Battlefront will offer.
This is the first reveal trailer.
And this is the multiplayer trailer with some glorious Clone Wars footage. And I love that they have the voice actors from the 2008 Clone Wars TV show providing the voices.

CoD, it's been a long time I'm bored of this franchise.
Star Wars? I really really enjoyed Rogue Squadron on my GameCube and a good multiplayer Star Wars game would be so nice with epic space and ground battles.. Unfortunately, Battlefront 1 was swarmed by hackers in no time, the content was poor and to get more content, you were forced to pay some more... overall, Battlefront 1 was not worth its price... and due to hackers, it was not worth to be played at all. Sadly, the company behind Battlefront 2 is EA... again... EA sucks at making good games... I don't trust them.. I bet it's going to be another major fail.... This said, if for some reason they manage to make a good game hackers free, I would probably be interested playing it.. Star Wars is a good franchise and no good multiplayer game is available for it.. it would be about time they do something about it.
Also, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere the balance in the game was awful... I wonder how they could do any better balancing the jedi and the soldiers so it remains fun to play for everyone.

I myself didn't purchase the first EA Battlefront, but am certainly aware of its shortcomings. That being said, I'm willing to give EA a chance this time. What I don't think I mentioned is that there will be no Season Pass for this game, and all major DLC will be free. There will be micro-transactions, but this way the community isn't split like the last game. I'd really like if they threw in dedicated servers for the PC, but there's been no confirmation of that.
And let's not forget EA had major success last year with Battlefield 1. I didn't get that game either, but have really only heard positive things about it. So they aren't incapable of making a well-acclaimed game.
As for the balancing issues, keep in mind the game that people got to play and the footage we saw is pre-alpha gameplay. There's still a lot of work to be done. That is a factor I'm sure they'll work on. They actually changed how the hero characters play too. They supposedly aren't as powerful as the previous Battlefront, and this game in general is going to have a larger focus on teamwork. But to me, I personally think a hero unit is supposed to be at least a little overpowered. If I'm playing as Darth Maul or Obi-Wan, I should be able to absolutely wreck regular infantry, at least for a little bit. I actually think they should have done Hero health the same as LucasArts' Battlefront 2, where you have to get kills to earn health back as it slowly regenerates. This forces you to go into battle and if you get surrounded, you'll probably die. Instead, Hero health actually can regenerate. But again, the Hero should feel more powerful anyway.

I tried Battlefield 1 in open beta with friends. I didn't buy it because it's not the kind of game I would play by myself. But it was definitively the best Battlefield game since Battlefield 2. A huge improvement to me.
Again, I don't trust any AAA devs anymore. Lucky us, many of them tends to do open beta few weeks of months before game release. Yes it's to gather feedback and find more bugs but we also know it's a very powerful marketing tool. Honestly, I usually wait for those open betas to come around. I try the games to see if (1) they work on my PC properly and (2) if I like the game overall and if there is no major failure incoming. If a game seems interesting then I start to read everything I can about it to get more informations about potential DLCs or microtransactions, what kind of network they will us, what kind of anti-cheat they chose (in PvP games), etc. If I can gather all information I want and it looks good, I may be tempted into pre-ordering. If I feel unsure or unsafe about it, I wait for the day of the release. Usually, it doesn't take long for people to write reviews about a new game and you quickly know if it's a good purchase or not.
So yes, I'll follow Battlefront 2. If they do an open beta, you can be sure i'll try it to see if my computer can run it and if it looks better than first game. I guess it'll be hard for EA to do any worse than the first game but lol.. it's EA... you can never know until it happens! XD
And for the balancing, don't forget they already have Battlefront 1 as a "test subject" lol.. They already know if their first idea was good or not. I heard it wasn't very balanced in Battlefront 1. I just hope they thought about it again and tried to rework balance of different characters so none feels overpowererd. I really hope this game will be better than first one. I don't really need a new FPS game honestly. But because it's a Star Wars game, I kinda feel excited... just because ground fights but also the damn air battles... I was so addicted to my Rogue Squadron games on Gamecube lol.
