Hazy/New England Style IPAs are my favorite right now - but for every super-strong beer, I need something easy to wash it down with. Favorite cheap beer is Montucky Cold Snacks because they donate every dollar towards a good regional cause. Honestly, I'm not picky and I just like to try something new each time but there are some favorites in my life. Favorite good beers: Weldwerks Juicy Bits Renegade Redacted Upslope Citra Pale Ale

Beer club shipment arrived today, got these:
DuClaw Brewing Company - Hop Hammer DuClaw Brewing Company - Sweet Baby Java Furthermore Beer - Floating Fire Furthermore Beer - Fatty Boombalatty
DuClaw is out of MD and Furthermore seems to be out of WI.
As a funny aside, in the little two page pamphlet that comes with the shipment describing the beers and breweries, in the section on the Sweet Baby Java beer, in a great typo they accidentally called it 'Sweet Baby Jesus' in one sentence ... got a good laugh out of that.

I didn't want to make a new thread and this one involves booze so I'll just put it here ... I got this today, there's a pretty nice new facility a little ways down the road from my house that bottles this stuff ... it's almost 5pm so I'm about to try it out. I hope to do a distillery tour sometime soon as well!

Nice! Haven't seen that particular new belgium on the shelves here, but I would drink it.
On the homebrew front I think I'll be starting a batch next month, seems like it's gonna still be too warm for a few weeks. I had been browsing amazon for kits recently (all the ingredients for a 5 gal batch packaged conveniently together), but I had a thought recently that I may change tactics and see if I can buy the key ingredients separately in bulk to get enough for a couple batches at a better price. This seems like a brilliant idea to me but I don't know yet what the availability is on all the ingredients when purchasing them individually.

Still too dang hot for starting the homebrew, but I hit the brewery (Heavy Seas) down the road for lunch today and got a couple growlers filled, one with their flagship Loose Cannon and one they were calling an India Pale Lager, a joint beer they made with a brewery out of Florida (Cigar City Brewing).
Also enjoyed one of their popular seasonal beers, Greater Pumpkin, out of the small batch cask while there ... sooo good!

Just ordered my first kit of the year ... "Fat, Drunk & Stupid Ale" ... should probably arrive next week sometime and probably ready to start drinking in November. Should yield around 50 beers. Now I'll have to start shopping around for the next kit to get started on once this batch gets bottled!

I make wine, beer and spirits. Wine I'm not much into, (I work at a winery, you don't put a mouse in charge of cheese).. I recently got a distiller. In the 'Land of the Free' (USA), if you get caught with a distiller you lose your house, car and bank account. In Canada,.. no one,..ever!.. has been charged with moonshining. I make beer because I like beer (Irish ) I make wine because it's my 'job' (on Saturdays, working on PCs drives you to drink!) I make spirits because I like the 'chemistry'. A Fool drinks 'shine'. I make Hi potent (about 120 proof) 'good spirits' for a fraction of the price. And it tastes great. I use 'hearts'. The ppl trying to make $$ off of you use a mix of 'heads, hearts, and tails' And I trade it for firewood. So in The Great White North, I heat for free hic!

I'm happy to pay for wine and liquor as long as it keeps all the pretentious Canadians out.
On the homebrew front, I added a couple peppers today. Luckily I went back to re-read the brewing recipe as I was ready to add the whole package of chipotle peppers to the batch but really only needed to add 1 or 2. Guess I will use the rest in a hot sauce or something, there's still a bunch left! The peppers stay in for a couple days, and then I may bottle in another week or so!

Tried one yesterday, was pretty good! The peppers added a nice kind of smokey/spice after-taste. ABV seemed decent too ... I cracked one around noon to try it out and could definitely tell I'd had a strong beer after finishing it which doesn't always seem to be the case with my homebrews -________-. Will have to make sure to emulate these past brewing procedures for future batches.

Wasn't planning on making another batch until the fall but decided to get one more brew in -______________-
Here's the description:
"The combination of Chinook and Citra builds a rolling tide of tangerine and lemon-citrus flavors across your tongue, while the grain bill adds a slightly bready but subtle base. The hops sail right through the finish, leaving a dry character that lingers until your next sip, which usually doesn’t take too long."

I have enjoyed a bastard ale a couple times in the past, really enjoy that one.
Haven't seen the barley wine one before but I imagine it was pretty strong, have had some other barley wine style beers in the past that were high ABV.
