Just ordered ingredients for an IPA ... looks like it'll probably be ready mid February assume it ships and arrives in a timely fashion.

Btw, I had teh Troegs Mad Elf and Mad Elf Grand Cru at the local tap room. They pack a punch at 11 and 13% ABV. Fans of IPAs (east coast US) will like Maine Brewing’s Lunch and Dinner. They tapped a few kegs at that same bar. Had a couple of them one night, went back the next day and they told me that they ran out of those beers in 4 hrs (multiple kegs). Very rare and you gotta get on the list if you want to buy that stuff from the liquor store. Runs out almost immediately. Wtf?

Yesss I came across Mad Elf a few years ago and loved it and its high ABV Never had anything from Maine Brewing before I don't think ... reminds me of this beer from Russian River brewing, Pliny the Elder, which I had seen people always rating very highly on the tronz, but was always so difficult to find, always sold out immediately at the high end beer stores. And from Troegs I could never find Nugget Nectar at the store, another one that got bought up right away. I think I managed to try it on tap at a random bar in the Outer Banks one time.

Loved being able to buy all my booze at the grocery store ... it's only allowed in a couple counties here though.

I don't get what the East Coast's problem is with booze being offered in grocery stores, but I'm not a history buff. It's so bizarre. It's like going to a booze brothel to grab the goods. Liquor isle at my store is on the other side of the baking isle.

It's a about which entities are powerful enough to influence legislation which varies by location. The liquor industry is littered with all sorts of ridiculous laws that make it harder for competitors to gain an advantage. Wisconsin has some super ridiculous laws as to where and what times alcohol can be purchased. Microbrews in Wisconsin basically have to pay major Brewers/distributors to distribute their products and their production is legally limited to a certain amount.

I think liquor laws are just probably bork'd in general ... an issue here right now involves breweries being able to sell their own beer on the premises. Currently there are a lot of restrictions in place that they obviously don't like that kinda favor distributors, so there are lots of limits on how much and how they can sell cases of beer and stuff on the premises. I think they have to actually have a distributor pick up the beer, and it has to be on the truck for a minimum amount of time or something, then they just unload it again. All sorts of convoluted stuff going on.
And some states have the ABC stores or whatever for liquor, but you can buy beer and wine in the grocery store ... just give us giant warehouse sized booze stores already, nobody cares about food!

Haha nice! Haven't heard of that brewery before.
I have had Pumking before, dunno if it was a rum barrel aged version or not , but I definitely tried a bunch of pumkin inspired beers one year.

There’s one microbrewery close to my work, that makes you sign in and take a ‘tour’ before ‘sampling’ the beers at the bar. All you have to do for the tour is to look left from the sign up sheet. Then head straight back to the bar. Borked indeed. FYI, I only do my grocery shopping at stores that sell liquor. Thems mah rules.

The best liqour buying experiences I've had were in San Francisco. In the corner stores for $6-7 you could buy a 24 oz. bottle of some kinda IPA and also a half pint of cheap whiskey or gin. Or a full pint of Ancient Age for 3.99. One of those sure could put a guy to sleep.
